Marc Casado’s knee injury has come at arguably the worst time for Barcelona.
The 21-year-old has been a big part of Hansi Flick’s squad this campaign, playing 35 games in all competitions.
Casado is now set to be out for at least two months but thankfully the youngster does not require surgery.
If the La Masia graduate had torn the ligament in his right knee then he would probably not have returned until 2026.
Due to his absence, Flick is going to have to figure out which players will not partner Pedri in the midfield pivot.
The German has been very open that he does not seem the likes of Fermin Lopez, Gavi or Dani Olmo used in that role.
Frenkie de Jong seems like the defacto starter now, however, there are still plenty of games for the Blaugrana to play this season and the Dutchman has struggled with injuries in the past.
In a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, Hansi Flick is set to look to his defence for a solution.
Eric Garcia, who has played as an auxiliary midfielder seems set to be De Jong’s immediate backup.
The former Manchester City player is very good on the ball and for being a central defender he can pick out a pass.
Flick has openly admired his midfield performances in the past.
“Eric is in shape and works well. It depends on the circumstances of the match; he is a very flexible and useful player for the team.
“He is happy, and we are happy with him,” said Flick earlier in the season.
Hopefully, the Spaniard does not have to be used too much but in case of an emergency, he will have to be ready.
