Barcelona prepared to sell key defender to fund Luis Diaz transfer

Barcelona could be forced to sell one of their key players to fund signing Liverpool’s Luis Diaz.

It is very clear that next summer, Barcelona are going to be targeting a natural left winger to help reinforce Hansi Flick’s attack.

The Blaugrana were close to signing Nico Williams last summer, unfortunately, due to the Spaniard’s expensive release clause and wages, the club could not afford it.

Deco could return to Athletic Bilbao and activate Williams’ €58million release clause, but with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal showing interest, it might be hard to compete with their financial power.

Due to this, it looks like Barcelona are set to look elsewhere for a winger who can significantly contribute to Flick’s team.

Even though Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez is mainly a striker, he has played on the wing during his career and he could also be a backup to Robert Lewandowski.

The Uruguayan forward reportedly offered himself to Barcelona and with Luis Suarez being close to him, a move could materialise.

However, according to Sport, Deco is targeting another Liverpool forward, Luis Diaz.

The Colombian’s camp has reportedly already met with the Barcelona Sporting Director and Deco sees him as the perfect for Flick’s side.

Whilst Liverpool are open to letting the 28-year-old leave, his current contract runs until 2027, meaning Liverpool will have a small advantage in negotiations.

The board believe that any deal for Diaz would be no more than €75million, making it an attractive deal as he could come straight in and improve the starting 11.

Unfortunately, it is claimed that Barcelona would need to make at least one big sale to facilitate any deal for the former Porto forward.

Whilst Ansu Fati and Andreas Christensen may fetch a few million, the club would be open to selling Ronald Araujo if the correct offer came in.

Arsenal and Juventus have shown concrete interest in the Uruguayan defender and could return in the summer, depending on the Blaugrana’s stance.

Even though losing Araujo could be costly, Inigo Martinez’s extension and Pau Cubarsi’s form could make the decision a lot easier for Joan Laporta and Deco.
