Liverpool are showing serious ambition by preparing a shock move to lure a talented Barcelona midfielder away from Camp Nou.
Liverpool are reportedly weighing up a dramatic transfer push into Spanish football as they seek to strengthen their defensive engine room with one of La Liga’s most promising young talents.
The Premier League outfit, aiming to maintain long-term competitive depth alongside their established midfield options, is closely monitoring potential market dislocations across Europe.
Spain indicates that Anfield executives have identified a highly rated Catalan academy graduate whose recent reduction in regular match action could open the door to a high-profile move.
The player situated directly on Liverpool’s transfer radar is 19-year-old Barcelona holding midfielder Marc Bernal, as reported by Fichajes.
The Spanish U-21 international, who is under contract at Spotify Camp Nou until June 2029, has experienced a drop in starter minutes following tactical shifts and squad rotations early in the campaign.
Frustrated by his limited playing time, Bernal’s representatives are reportedly open to evaluating a potential exit should his operational role under Hansi Flick fail to expand over the coming months.
Liverpool’s recruitment team sees Bernal’s press-resistant composure and tactical discipline as a perfect fit to complement their existing central setup.
However, Liverpool are determined to jump ahead of competing suitors by offering the teenager concrete guarantees regarding first-team development and consistent minutes in major European competitions.
Anfield officials plan to send scouts to directly observe Bernal’s performances during Barcelona’s late-year fixtures to assess his physical and technical progression ahead of potential negotiations.
While Barcelona’s hierarchy remains hesitant to lose a homegrown prospect, a formal request from the player driven by a desire for regular minutes could force the Catalan club to evaluate incoming proposals.
As the situation unfolds in Spain, Liverpool stand ready to transform their interest into a decisive move.
