His absence from the squad for the season-opening fixture against Elche further confirmed his diminishing role at the club.
Xavi Espart has since emerged as the academy’s preferred alternative at right-back, adding further pressure on Fort’s position.
Dortmund view the Spaniard as a player capable of competing with Julian Ryerson for a starting role on the right side of defence.
His ability to contribute to build-up play from that flank is understood to be a key factor behind their interest.
Real Sociedad remain patient, hoping to find the right conditions to convince Barcelona a move to San Sebastian is still possible.
