Barcelona’s policy of transfers still causes shockwaves, with Catalunya Radio reports claiming the club is ready to sell Raphinha this summer—despite the Brazilian having his best campaign of his life.

The 28-year-old has been a revelation under Hansi Flick, a form that has even seen him talked about for the Ballon d’Or.

With Raphinha’s deal expiring in 2027, Barcelona risks losing him on the cheap if they wait, and his market value will never be greater.

The economic motivation for the potential sale is the one.

But Barcelona reportedly has placed an €80-90 million price tag on his head, implying that they are prepared to sell him when his market value is at its highest.

The interest in Nico Williams—a long-term target—provides another angle.

Although their interest in the Athletic Club winger is independent of Raphinha’s sale, his sale may pay for the move and help solve Financial Fair Play problems.

But the move is risky. Raphinha is now a leader and clutch performer and not so easily replaced.

Few clubs gladly lose their top player, especially when they’re playing career-best football.

Complicating matters, Raphinha is reportedly keen on staying, and Barcelona has even initiated renewal talks to protect his value.

But the club’s tendency to offload big-name players for balance-sheet comfort hangs over them.

If they proceed, it would be a bold gamble—relying on Williams or some other signing to fill the gap, and Raphinha’s performance wouldn’t endure past one season.

For fans, it’s a nonsensical decision: why sell a player who has finally secured a settled role as a foundation of the team?

The answer, as always with Barcelona, may come down to their fragile finances ahead of sporting rationale.
