Barcelona’s next generation continues to take centre stage, with the club’s young stars becoming increasingly influential both at Camp Nou and on the international stage.
The Catalan giants are entering another important summer as they look to refresh their squad and prepare for the next era following major changes in the attacking department.
With experienced figures moving on, Barcelona’s emerging leaders are expected to have a bigger voice in shaping the team’s future.
One of those players has already become one of the most recognisable faces of both club and country despite still being a teenager.
Lamine Yamal has continued to impress with Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 18-year-old forward was recently asked about Barcelona’s search for a new striker following Robert Lewandowski’s departure and revealed the type of profile he would like to see arrive at Spotify Camp Nou.
Speaking to COPE and Cadena SER, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, from Spain’s World Cup base in Chicago, Lamine Yamal admitted he would welcome any forward capable of delivering goals for Barça.
“Which striker would I sign for Barça? I don’t know. As long as he scores goals! I really like Julian (Alvarez) and Mikel (Oyarzabal),” he said.
Barcelona’s main attacking target is believed to be Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, and Yamal was even more direct when asked about the Argentine specifically.
“He’s a great player; if he comes, we’ll welcome him with open arms. He’d be joining the best club in the world, with the best fans in the world, in what I consider to be the best city in the world,” Yamal said.
The teenager then made his admiration for Alvarez even clearer, adding, “If I were him, I’d do it. We’re waiting for him if he wants to come, go for it.”
Yamal’s comments show how quickly his role at Barcelona has grown, with the winger now openly discussing potential arrivals and the direction of the club.
The teenager’s influence continues to expand beyond his performances on the pitch, with his words carrying increasing weight among supporters and within the squad.
