As Barcelona finalizes its squad for next season, an unexpected opportunity has emerged to land an Inter Milan defensive ace.

The Catalan club anticipates finalizing the departures of Inaki Pena, Oriol Romeu, and Hector Fort soon, but no major signings were expected.

Despite this, an enticing proposal has emerged, offering a player who aligns with the defensive profile Barcelona seeks, capable of adapting to multiple roles in the backline.

The player in question is Benjamin Pavard, a 29-year-old French defender well-known to Barcelona’s manager, Hansi Flick, from their time together at Bayern Munich, as reported by Diario Sport.

Pavard, represented by agent Pini Zahavi, is reportedly set to leave Inter Milan in the final days of the transfer window.

Zahavi, who also represents Robert Lewandowski and Flick, recently met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, leveraging their close relationship to propose the move.

Pavard’s ability to play as both a centre-back and right-back, combined with his extensive international experience, makes him an attractive option for the Blaugrana.

Inter Milan is eager to offload Pavard due to his high wages, despite his rejection of a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia’s Neom in favor of staying at a top European club with Champions League football.

However, Barcelona’s sporting management views the move as complicated.

Their current focus is on registering Wojciech Szczesny, Gerard Martin, Marc Bernal, and Roony Bardghji, leaving little financial wiggle room, even if they achieve La Liga’s 1:1 Fair Play rule before the transfer window closes.

For now, no concrete steps have been taken to pursue Pavard.

While Flick would not oppose adding another defender, Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, is prioritizing a younger, left-footed centre-back for a reserve team registration with potential first-team integration, especially after Inigo Martinez’s departure to Saudi Arabia.

Pavard, valued at €25 million, fits the versatile profile but may not align with this long-term vision.

Unless circumstances shift dramatically, the transfer seems unlikely, though the proposal underscores Barcelona’s appeal in the market.
