Barcelona’s summer transfer strategy is beginning to take shape under new head coach Hansi Flick, with the German manager expected to oversee a series of calculated moves to strengthen key areas.

The Blaugrana are in the market for a physically dominant midfielder to bolster their spine.

While financial constraints continue to limit Barca’s spending power, the Catalan giants are paying particular attention to the free agent market, where value can still be found without sacrificing quality.

And with one high-profile name now officially set to become available, the Camp Nou hierarchy are on high alert.

According to Fabrizio Romano via X, Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is set to leave Arsenal as a free agent at the end of the month, confirming weeks of speculation that the 31-year-old’s time in North London is over.

Romano posted on X: “Thomas Partey, set to leave Arsenal as free agent at the end of the month – story from last week confirmed. AFC have already activated options to replace Thomas with Norgaard talks ongoing with Brentford.”

Thomas Partey arrived at Arsenal in 2020 from Atletico Madrid in a £45 million move and was initially seen as a linchpin in Mikel Arteta’s midfield rebuild.

But after a string of injury setbacks and diminishing influence, the Ghanaian international struggled to recapture his best form and eventually fell down the pecking order.

Now, with no contract extension agreed and both parties open to a new chapter, his next destination could be a return to Spain — with Barcelona monitoring the situation closely.

Given the club’s need for experience and athleticism in midfield, Partey fits the profile of a short-term solution who can offer depth, steel, and La Liga familiarity.

The former Atletico man has already been tentatively linked with Barca in previous windows, and his free agent status now makes him a more realistic option.

While no formal offer has been made, the Catalan club are expected to keep tabs on his next steps — especially if other targets prove too expensive in a tight market.
