After Ińigo Martínez picked up an injury in the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid, rumours started swirling that Ronald Araújo could look to stay at the club this season.
However, with the Spanish international only expected to be out for 4-5 weeks, it could see him come back into the side and replace the Uruguayan once again.
Due to this, reports that the 25-year-old centre-back still wants to leave Barça this January have continued.
Despite Araújo’s insistence to leave, his Barcelona teammates do not want him to depart, something that Robert Lewandowski reiterated after their 5-2 win over Real Madrid recently.
According to Sport, via Managing Barca, during the celebrations after winning the Super Cup final, Lewandowski and the Uruguayan had an interesting conversation.
“Ronald, you have to stay man. At least until the end of the season. You’ll play here, you’ll see,” said Lewandowski.
Whilst shaking his head, Araújo replied, “Brother…”
It seems unlikely that the defender will change his mind but if Barça really want to keep him then an improved offer and the confidence and backing of his teammates could see Araújo potentially stay at the Blaugrana beyond this campaign.
