Barcelona’s transfer strategy has often involved identifying elite talent capable of strengthening their squad for years to come.
The Catalan giants continue to compete for the biggest honours in Spain and Europe, making recruitment decisions a major part of their long-term ambitions.
Their attacking department has been particularly influential, with Raphinha emerging as one of the team’s most productive performers.
The Brazilian winger has enjoyed a remarkable start to the 2026/27 season, scoring 13 La Liga goals and providing three assists in his first nine league appearances.
His contribution underlines the importance of having decisive players in the final third as Barcelona look to maintain their position among Europe’s leading clubs.
However, their pursuit of additional attacking talent has also brought scrutiny from domestic rivals.
RFEF fine Barcelona
Barcelona have been fined €602 by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) following Atletico Madrid’s complaint over their reported pursuit of Julian Alvarez, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
The disciplinary case stems from Atletico’s allegation that Barcelona approached the Argentine striker while he remained under contract with the Madrid club.
Atletico lodged complaints with both the RFEF and FIFA in June, arguing that Barcelona should have formally notified them before entering negotiations with the player.
Spanish regulations require clubs interested in signing a contracted professional to inform his current club in writing before beginning discussions with the player.
The RFEF opened disciplinary proceedings in late July to investigate the matter, while FIFA declined to intervene because the dispute fell outside its jurisdiction.
The Spanish federation has now concluded the investigation, imposing the maximum €602 fine available under Article 133 of its disciplinary regulations, which covers failures to comply with regulatory obligations.
The punishment brings the proceedings to an end without a significant financial consequence for Barcelona.
Julian Alvarez ultimately remained at Atletico, meaning Barcelona’s reported interest did not result in a transfer.
