Pau Cubarsi was forced off the pitch in Spain’s 2-2 draw against Netherlands on Thursday.
The La Masia graduate was brought off in the 41st minute with what looked like a painful injury.
This instantly sparked worry amongst Barcelona supporters.
Losing Cubarsi could be detrimental to Flick’s team in what is a very close La Liga title race.
Barcelona made it very clear that they wanted the 18-year-old to return back to the club and not take part in La Roja’s next international fixture.
However, the RFEF determined that the teenager should remain with his international teams.
Thankfully, it looks like the Blaugrana have won this dispute and he has headed home for further tests.
In an official statement on X, Barca provided an injury update:
“The tests conducted this morning at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper have shown that first-team player Pau Cubarsí has an elongation of the anterior tibiofibular ligament in his right ankle.
“He will undergo conservative treatment, and his tolerance to activity will be re-evaluated in 48 hours.”
The initial report seems to suggest that Cubarsi has avoided a serious injury, with a sprain being the most likely outcome.
If it is not serious then the teenager could line up to face off against Osasuna with Ronald Araujo, or even Martinez if he can return from fitness.
Hopefully, the international break is kind to the Blaugrana and other key players, especially the likes of Pedri, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal can all avoid any potential injuries that might derail the title charge.
