FC Barcelona officially submit their ambitious bid for the 2029 Champions League final in a major statement of intent for the iconic stadium.
Barcelona’s season on the pitch is being matched by major moves off it, as the club and city position themselves to host some of world football’s biggest nights in the coming years.
With the revamped Spotify Camp Nou progressing and institutional backing growing, the Catalan capital is pushing to re-establish itself as a prime stage for elite finals.
The headline ambition is clear: FC Barcelona has formally entered the race to host the 2029 UEFA Champions League final at the new Camp Nou, submitting the required documentation for UEFA’s evaluation process.
In an official statement, the club confirmed its joint bid with the Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia, underlining a unified front to bring the continent’s showpiece club match back to the city.
UEFA has already received an initial bid dossier, with the full and final submission due by June, after which the proposal will be assessed against strict criteria on infrastructure, security, capacity, and logistics.
The city has signed the Host City Agreement, while the Catalan government has labelled the Camp Nou project “the strongest possible option” for 2029, reflecting confidence in both the stadium’s modernization and Barcelona’s event-hosting track record.
If successful, the final would mark the return of the Champions League decider to Camp Nou for the first time since 1999, when Manchester United famously overturned Bayern Munich with a dramatic stoppage-time comeback.
Competition will be fierce, with London’s Wembley Stadium also in contention, and UEFA’s Executive Committee set to make a final decision on September 6.
Beyond 2029, the Royal Spanish Football Federation is additionally considering the new Camp Nou as a candidate venue for the 2030 World Cup final, to be hosted jointly by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, which would further cement Barcelona’s status as a global football hub.
