Barcelona’s economic situation is not new to the football world. The Catalan club has been a loggerhead with La Liga regarding player registrations, with Dani Olmo and Pau Victor as the latest pending issues.

With the problems they’ve had with player registration and the fact that they have yet to move back into the Camp Nou after costly renovations, the club needs all the money it can get.

The Champions League has always been one of the most lucrative sources of money for Spanish clubs, and this season has been no exception.

According to Marca, Barcelona will receive a massive windfall for reaching the quarterfinals of Europe’s best club competition, in addition to their copious rewards from their outstanding league results.

Their triumph in the last 16 tie against Benfica earned them €12.5 million, which is not bad for only two matches.

Furthermore, the team has won €67 million for their performances this season, the most in the competition since PSG eliminated Liverpool.

Suppose Barcelona go the distance and win this year’s Champions League. In that case, they will receive an extra €40 million, raising their total earnings to €107 million.

However, there is still a long way to go until that happens.
