Xavi Hernandez the current Barca coach has always demanded for a squad that can compete in Europe. With the backing of president Joan Laporta and Deco knowledge of the transfer market, we dive into the possible additions Culers could expect wearing the famous Blaugrana colors.

Goalkeepers

In goal, we have Marc Andre Ter Stegen coming off an outstanding season where he kept a record matching 26 clean sheet. One could simply argue MATS is the best goalkeeper in the world. Due to his impeccable form the German goalie has created a sense of reassurance in goal for the Catalan giant. Therefore an extension to MATS contract till 2028 has been signed of by both parties and the German is expected to be among the Barcelona squad for a couple more seasons. Tho Marc retains the full confidence of the club, he does have an interesting list of deputies in the likes of Inaki Pena, Ander Astralaga, Diego Kochen. Ready to go, these young deputies would give everything they have at every chance that comes their way.

Defenders

FC Barcelona go into their 2023/24 campaign with the likes of Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, Inigo Martinez, Alejandro Balde, Sergio Roberto, Marcus Alonso and Joao Cancelo as their defensive options. The big topic thus surrounds Joao Cancelo. The fullback who is currently on loan at Barcelona is making a case for himself on why the club should go all out to sign him. With a couple of good performances and a late winner at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, Cancelo has solidified his spot as the starting RB which comes as a surprise to no one considering his quality. In Barcelona it is said that there is still calmness surrounding the Cancelo situation, as it was reported that an agreement was reached to buy Cancelo for $26m.Meanwhile Cancelo isn’t the only defensive addition the club is looking to bring in. With the contracts of some of the veterans namely Sergio Roberto and Marcus Alonso coming to an end, the club recruitment team headed by Deco as identified Vanderson Campos as a potential addition come the summer 2024. The Brazilian who plays his football for French side Monaco, is 22 years old having joint them in the winter transfer window of 2022.

MidFielders

The 2022\23 saw the time of a club legend in Sergio Busquets come to an end in the club. Whilst the club has spent little, they have managed to bring in top quality players in the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu, to bolster up the midfield. Xavi still remains a fan of Bernardo Silva.  A player who he pushed for all summer but City was reluctant to let him leave. Therefore, leading to him putting pen to paper on a contract extension. However, in Bernardo’s contract there is a release clause set at about $63m. Same clause is said to be included in Dani Olmo’s contract with the former La Masia graduate linked to a move back to Barca in recent years. Arthur Vermereen of Royal Antwerp, is yet another name which rumours claim discussions were held between Deco and Marc Overmars over a possible deal in the summer.

Attackers

Joao Felix just like Cancelo has also kicked the ground running at Barcelona while still being a loaned player. In this saga tho, there remains a big difference from that of Cancelo. Whilst a deal with City looks very likely, Atletico are unwilling to let Felix leave on a cheap. Barca would have to cough out a huge amount of cash to get this deal across the line. Felix situation doesn’t seem to be the only concern in Barca’s frontline. Robert Lewandowski Barca’s top goal scorer last season is into the latter stages of his career. With the option of extending for a further year, Barcelona will surely be in the market for another striker. The imminent arrival of Vitor Roque has not stopped the club from showing interest in the likes of Benjamin Sesko and off course Erling Haaland. One could simply tell the type of striker Barca seem to be after, one with similar physique as that of Lewy and the clinical touch in front of goal.

Barca financial struggles is one which is known to all. But if there is a board capable of pulling out one of the greatest transfer window ever out of nothing, It has to be the Barcelona board.
