Last summer, one player that most fans wanted the club to sign was Spanish international & Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.

The forward had a very impressive EUROs campaign with Spain and his partnership with Barca’s Lamine Yamal was a force to be reckoned with.

Despite Deco reportedly approaching the young forward about joining the Blaugrana, Williams decided to stay at his boyhood for another year.

Nico Williams on not joining Barcelona

Speaking in a recent interview, cited by Managing Barca, Williams was asked why he decided to stay at Bilbao instead of joining Barca.

“Athletic is my family. The relationship we have within the club is amazing. I don’t think I will find this atmosphere anywhere else.

“At that moment, I made the decision that I think is right, and I am very happy with it.”

It now seems unlikely that Barcelona will renew their interest in Williams, especially with Premier League clubs such as Arsenal and Liverpool courting him.
