Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has been busy since the winter transfer window renewing key players for many years.

The contracts of players like Pedri, Gavi, Gerard Martin, Ronald Araujo, and Pau Cubarsi have been extended, with Lamine and Inigo soon to be sealed. Yet contract talks for Frenkie de Jong were stalled until the end of the season.

De Jong’s future at Barcelona has been a persistent curiosity in recent years. Frenkie de Jong’s fate at Barcelona is unknown as he reaches the end of his contract. Nevertheless, the Spanish club wish to keep the midfielder under their terms.

In the summer of 2024 and beyond, it was reported that elite European clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, closely followed De Jong’s situation.

According to journalist Ferran Correas, Barcelona has offered De Jong a new contract extending his current wage for another three years. Nonetheless, the settlement excludes his deferred wages.

The Gunners are willing to pay €75 million to sign the Dutch midfielder in the forthcoming transfer window—a figure that may pique the interest of FC Barcelona, who are looking to stabilize their finances and bring in new players.

The player’s contract status has generated concerns, and while a departure appeared imminent, Hansi Flick’s appointment has changed the narrative. The German coach has made De Jong an essential part of his system, increasing his chances of sticking with the club.
