Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona is still very much in doubt despite him becoming a mainstay in Hansi Flick’s side.

The Dutchman, who was an outcast before the winter break, has recently broken back into the team, replacing La Masia graduate Marc Casado.

Due to these impressive performances, reports that he wants to extend his stay at the Camp Nou have started to emerge, something that seemed impossible a few months ago.

However, reports from many outlets are starting to claim that a move to the Premier League could be on the cards if he does not agree to a new deal.

Arsenal join the race for Frenkie de Jong

According to Fichajes, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are ready to pay €75million for the Barcelona midfielder, an offer that could prove too good for the Blaugrana to reject.

Even though De Jong wants to continue his stay in Spain, with his contract running out in 2026 it could already be too late.

Joan Laporta has recently claimed that any Barca player with less than a year left on their deal will not be part of next season’s squad until they extend.

The Gunners could face competition from Arne Slot’s Liverpool for De Jong too, as they have reportedly been watching the Dutchman for some time.

Finally, it is stated that Flick does want to keep him but due to the delicate financial situation, they might be forced to cash in, especially when you consider the 27-year-old is the second-highest earner at the club behind Robert Lewandowski.
