Barcelona are looking to strengthen their full-back options and have reportedly set their sights on Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Hugo Bueno, according to Football España.

Alejandro Balde has been a standout performer at left-back in what has been an impressive campaign for Hansi Flick’s side in 2024/25. While 22-year-old Gerard Martin has occasionally filled in for the young Spaniard, Flick is eager to boost the team’s depth further. Sporting Director Deco has identified several targets to address this area of concern.

Among those under consideration is Hugo Bueno, who joins a shortlist featuring high-profile names such as Alphonso Davies and Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras. Barcelona are expected to finalize a signing for this position within the next few transfer windows.

Bueno, currently on loan at Feyenoord, has already made 10 appearances for the Dutch side this season, including three in the Champions League, where he has registered three assists.

The Wolves academy graduate has also gained significant Premier League experience, having played 43 matches for the Midlands club, earning praise for his performances and being described as “exceptional.”

Despite his talent, Bueno would likely serve as backup to Balde, who has firmly established himself as one of the brightest products of La Masia. Ideally, Barcelona would secure Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich to elevate their squad depth.

However, a deal for the Canadian star appears complicated, with Real Madrid reportedly leading the race to sign him on a free transfer next summer.

Another option for Barcelona is Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras. The Spanish full-back, a former Manchester United youth player, is having a breakout season in Portugal, contributing four goal involvements in 17 appearances.

However, any potential move could be complicated by a €20 million (£16.7 million) buyback clause held by Manchester United, which could see the English club re-sign the player.

Barcelona’s efforts to reinforce their squad suggest an active pursuit of long-term solutions for their full-back positions.
