Barcelona presently holds the top scorer position in Spain, occupied by Robert Lewandowski. It is important for the club to prepare for the future as the Polish striker nears his 37th birthday in August.

If he participates for at least 45 minutes in more than half of Barcelona’s matches this season, his contract will be extended automatically for another year.

Earlier this week, reports emerged indicating that club president Joan Laporta is targeting Manchester City’s Erling Haaland as the next major signing for the team.

Laporta is committed to facilitating the transfer and is confident in the possibility of convincing Haaland to join, especially in the scenario where Pep Guardiola departs City and the club encounters potential repercussions from the Premier League.

Nonetheless, any prospective transfer for the Norwegian forward appears to be a few years down the line, assuming it materializes.

Per Florian Plettenberg, Barcelona is not presently in pursuit of Haaland, and the striker is not actively looking to leave Manchester City.

Laporta is keen on bringing in a superstar to draw in crowds at the new Camp Nou, slated for completion in 2026. Barcelona has also been associated with Jonathan David from Lille, who is set to become a free agent next summer.

Signing him could potentially alleviate some of the pressure on Lewandowski. The club has also recruited Vitor Roque as a future replacement for the Polish striker, although this arrangement is currently paused.
