Nico Williams has expressed that he does not have concerns about his future beyond the current season, despite persistent speculation about a potential departure from Athletic Bilbao.
There were strong indications at one stage of a transfer to Barcelona, with reports suggesting that the Catalan club had triggered his €55 million (£47 million) release clause.
Williams made the decision to remain with Athletic Club, stating his intention to participate in European competition this year.
His brother and teammate, Inaki Williams, has recently stated that the Spain international has no regrets about this decision.
The future of the 22-year-old player is currently subject to much speculation, with Barcelona expected to revisit their interest next summer. Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool have also shown admiration for him.
Williams has mentioned that any decisions regarding his future will be delayed as he is currently focused on the 2024-25 season and the potential opportunity to lead Athletic to the 2025 Europa League final at San Mames.
The remarks suggest the possibility of a departure in the upcoming summer transfer window.
He admitted to being “surprised” by the booing from Barcelona fans earlier this season when it was clear he would remain with Athletic.
