Nico Gonzalez, currently in his second season at Porto following an €8.5 million transfer from FC Barcelona in 2023, is experiencing the peak moments of his career in Portugal.
In a recent interview with the Portuguese publication O Jogo (via MARCA), Nico discussed his time at La Masia and shared insights from his experiences with Barcelona’s first team, revealing that he had the chance to join Real Madrid in his youth but opted for La Masia instead.
“I had various choices, such as Real Madrid, but I was already acquainted with Barça; I had been associated with the club since my childhood, so the decision was straightforward,” he stated.
He noted that although his childhood hero was Iniesta, he shifted towards Busquets when he started playing as a ‘6’ at Barcelona. “Here at Porto, my role closely resembles that of Iniesta,” he stated.
