FC Barcelona expressed a keen desire to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus last week but missed out on him as he ended up joining Liverpool instead.

Barcelona’s eagerness was not enough to secure the deal, as they were hindered by continuing Financial Fair Play restrictions.

According to reports from SPORT, Barcelona made a significant effort to secure Chiesa’s transfer. Nevertheless, the problems extended beyond just Chiesa’s registration and also encompassed Barcelona’s financial stability.

Barcelona made a €10 million bid for Chiesa, but their financial constraints hindered them from completing the transaction. Deco, the club’s sporting director, informed Juventus that they did not have the necessary funds right now for the deal.

Barcelona proposed breaking up the payment of €10 million into five annual installments. Juventus turned down the offer because they required funds quickly and could not afford to wait for an extended period of time. Furthermore, Chiesa was hesitant to agree to a five-year contract.
