According to recent reports, Barcelona is considering the possibility of allowing Frenkie de Jong to depart during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Manchester United has been the primary contender for the Dutch midfielder, but following Martin Zubimendi’s decision to stay at Real Sociedad, Liverpool might exhibit greater interest.
Liverpool is currently in need of a defensive midfielder after the news broke that Zubimendi will not be joining the team as previously expected.
This indicates that the club has yet to secure any new first-team players this summer, and reinforcements are necessary.
Football Espana has implied that a potential departure of De Jong from Barcelona could be beneficial for Liverpool.
Although, it is worth noting that Manchester United is not actively pursuing De Jong at the moment.
De Jong’s ongoing ankle injury could pose a challenge in any potential transfer, and Barcelona’s asking price of over €60 million might also serve as a hurdle.
