Barcelona have upped their search for a new right-back as manager Hansi Flick seeks to address one of the club’s most concerning positions ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Barcelona sees this as an important position that needs to be addressed to fight for the top titles next season.

Barcelona sporting director Deco has long been said to have met with the representatives of two players over the last few weeks as the club considers its options.

Spanish newspaper AS says the Catalan giants have set their sights on two primary targets: mercurial Brazilian defender Dodo of Fiorentina and utility Romanian international Andrei Ratiu of Rayo Vallecano.

Dodo has taken on the flashier of the two roles.

The 25-year-old Fiorentina fullback has impressed in Serie A with his marauding runs, searing pace, and potent crossing threat – all of which are perfectly suited to Barcelona’s attack-first philosophy.

But his €25 million price tag could prove to be a problem for Barcelona’s notorious financial woes, especially as Fiorentina are determined to negotiate an extension of his contract past 2026.

Otherwise, Ratiu provides a more affordable option. The 26-year-old has adapted well to La Liga after transferring to Rayo Vallecano, displaying solid defensive foundations in addition to attacking contributions.

His present experience in Spain’s top division makes him an intriguing option who could readily make an immediate impact at Camp Nou.

As the summer window gets closer, Barcelona has a big decision to make.

Although Dodo is a bigger star name, the value for money and La Liga know-how of Ratiu is a big draw.

The decision boils down to their financial flexibility and whether they can or cannot sell other players to generate funds.

Whatever happens, one thing is for sure – strengthening the right-back role is right at the top of the Catalan giants’ summer shopping list.
