Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has had a tough time picking the players who will start a game, as all the players in the squad are capable of the spectacular whenever they can play.
Looking at the situation, it doesn’t matter much whether Eric Garcia and Gerrad Martin start instead of the regulars due to the amazing improvements in their performances under Hansi Flick.
Frenkie de Jong is a prime example, as the Dutch midfielder was almost out of the pecking order until Flick’s appointment, who has always maintained that de Jong is an essential player for his system.
For tomorrow’s emotional and crucial clash against Benfica, the head coach faces a tussle for the attacking midfielder position, with Gavi and Olmo as the most interesting options.
Hansi Flick to Decide Attacking Option for Benfica Game
Barcelona, who did not play on Saturday due to the shock death of the club’s head doctor, will be back in action tomorrow to cement their place in the quarter-final of UCL after taking a slim lead thanks to a 1-0 victory in Lisbon last Wednesday.
In what appears to be an emotional match, Barcelona is said to hold a one-minute silence for the deceased before kicking off the game against Benfica.
As such, this is not an issue. Hansi Flick has one uncertainty about his starting lineup for the club’s next match.
Hansi Flick, for his part, has already settled on most of his squad to get Barcelona over the line tomorrow night, including Jules Koundé, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Lamine Yamal.
However, as previously stated, only one slot in Flick’s lineup is still available. According to Mundo Deportivo, this comes amid an ongoing tussle for the attacking midfield position, with Dani Olmo just edging out Gavi.
Gavi, left off the squad list for Barcelona’s last game due to fever, will be looking to return to action. At the same time, Olmo would love to be compensated after the early substitution in the first leg following Pau Cubarsi’s early red card.
