When Leo Messi was leaving Paris Saint-Germain, many top clubs were trying to court him, including Pep Guardiola’s Man City.

Barcelona were rumoured to be interested in a reunion, however, at the time, the finances would not allow such a thing to happen.

Eventually, the World Cup winner travelled across the Atlantic and ended up signing for David Beckham’s Inter Miami.

Since then he has lit up the MLS, most recently winning the Most Valuable Player award for 2024.

Despite being 37-years-old, Messi doesn’t look like he’s about to stop playing football anytime soon and due to that, Miami seems to be lining up a new deal for the Argentine, according to Marca.

Messi’s contract is set to expire in 2025, however, the MLS side has the option to extend it a further year.

Despite this Beckham and Jorge Mas Santos, the club’s co-owners, are planning on offering him a new deal that would see him be able to play in Europe during the off-season.

It seems like the American outfit are providing this option as they are aware that Messi wants to maintain his sharpness to help his national team defend their World Cup in 2026.

Thierry Henry also had a similar move in 2012 when he was playing with the New York Red Bulls.

The Frenchman returned to his old side Arsenal in January and played for Arsene Wenger’s team on a two-month loan during the off-season.

It is suspected it would be a very similar circumstance for Messi, however, no European clubs have been mentioned in the report.

If Leo was to follow in Henry’s footsteps, then a much-anticipated return to Barcelona could be on the cards.
