Hansi Flick demands the departure of a top Barcelona defender, making it clear that the player is no longer in his plans.
FC Barcelona may be enjoying a flawless opening run to their domestic and European campaigns, but tactical selection choices continue to send shockwaves through the dressing room.
Despite heavy squad rotation during their recent 3-0 victory against Getafe, the coaching staff once again signaled that past status guarantees no starting role in Catalonia.
The La Masia graduate driving these exit rumors as Hansi Flick demands the exit of a top Barcelona defender is 22-year-old left-back Alejandro Balde, as reported by Diario AS.
Once regarded as the undisputed long-term heir to the club’s left flank, the Spanish international has been almost entirely frozen out of competitive action, managing just 12 minutes of playing time across eight league games this season.
Flick’s preference for Gerard Martín and academy starlet Xavi Espart—alongside the versatility of João Cancelo—has pushed Balde to the bottom of the defensive hierarchy.
From Barcelona’s perspective, Balde’s sudden fall from grace represents both a tactical evolution and an opportunity to trim wage obligations.
Hansi Flick previously omitted the defender from matchday squads during the summer window, granting him time to analyze potential transfer offers.
While the full-back opted to stay and fight for his place, his continued exclusion from the bench—even when core starters rested—has made it abundantly clear that he no longer fits into the German manager’s high-intensity pressing scheme.
For Balde, the upcoming January transfer window will likely prove decisive for his career trajectory.
With top Premier League suitors including Everton, Chelsea, and Fulham previously registering interest in dynamic full-backs, a winter move away from Spotify Camp Nou appears increasingly inevitable.
As Barcelona prepare for upcoming Champions League clashes, all signs point to Balde seeking a new destination to restore his competitive minutes and international status.
