Barcelona are considering a bold and unexpected move for a Benfica star, with the player open to a fresh challenge in La Liga.
Barcelona’s sporting directors, alongside Premier League suitors Tottenham Hotspur, are actively monitoring frontmen who can provide reliable goalscoring output, physical presence, and tactical flexibility.
With Catalan decision-makers planning for long-term attacking depth, the Portuguese outfit’s prized forward has emerged as an intriguing target.
The goalscoring sensation driving these transfer headlines as a Benfica star linked with a shock Barcelona switch is Greece international Vangelis Pavlidis, as reported by CaughtOffside.
The 27-year-old striker has enjoyed a prolific spell in Lisbon following his high-profile move from AZ Alkmaar, consistently delivering clinical finishes in domestic league play and European competitions.
His impressive link-up play and composure inside the penalty box have caught the attention of Deco and Barcelona’s recruitment team as they search for potential successors and rotation options for Robert Lewandowski.
From Barcelona’s perspective, pursuing Pavlidis represents a practical and cost-effective solution to solidify their center-forward options under Hansi Flick.
While the Catalan club continues to manage financial constraints, scouting targets valued in the region of €25 million to €30 million align with their budget framework.
However, Barcelona will face tough competition from Tottenham Hotspur, who are also keen on adding a physically dominant goalscorer to compete across domestic and European fronts.
For Pavlidis, the prospect of securing a move to Spotify Camp Nou represents a major step forward in his career trajectory.
Joining Barcelona would allow the Greek forward to display his finishing abilities on Spanish football’s biggest stage while competing for major silverware.
As the January transfer window draws near, observers across Europe will be watching closely to see if Barcelona or Tottenham formalize their interest into a concrete offer to test Benfica’s resolve.
