Barcelona’s transfer strategy this summer has been shaped by a clear internal priority list, with attacking reinforcements initially taking centre stage before defensive planning is properly addressed.
The club’s recruitment department is working through multiple targets across different positions, carefully balancing budget constraints with squad needs.
While the focus has largely been on strengthening the forward line first, attention is now slowly turning back to the backline.
And that’s where a new name has started gaining traction.
Barcelona continue to explore options at centre-back, even though the urgency has temporarily shifted due to priorities elsewhere in the squad.
Earlier discussions had centred around Alessandro Bastoni as a potential top-level addition for the position, but the overall package required, including a significant transfer fee, has led to Barcelona cooling their interest for now.
With that option currently on hold, alternative profiles are being assessed across Europe, and one of the latest names to surface is Jakub Kiwior, who has impressed during his time in Portugal.
The Polish international has enjoyed a strong season at Porto, playing an important role as the club secured the league title in Portugal.
His consistency and defensive reliability have made him an appealing option for clubs looking for value in the transfer market.
Kiwior’s situation is also relatively complex from a contractual perspective.
He is currently on loan from Arsenal, with Porto having paid a €2 million loan fee as part of the arrangement.
The deal includes an obligation that is expected to make his move permanent at the end of the season for around €17 million.
Despite that, Barcelona have still been monitoring developments closely.
According to Tomasz Włodarczyk, via YouTube, Barcelona sporting director Deco has already made contact with Porto president Andre Villas-Boas to explore the possibility of a future deal involving Jakub Kiwior.
Although the centre-forward position remains the immediate priority for the summer window, the club are clearly keeping one eye on defensive reinforcements, especially with long-term squad balance in mind.
As the market develops, Barcelona’s recruitment team are expected to continue assessing opportunities, with Kiwior now firmly among the names being tracked as they look to reshape key areas of the squad for the seasons ahead.
