The summer transfer window is already shaping up to be a defining one for Barcelona as the club look to build a squad capable of dominating both domestically and in Europe next season.

There is a growing understanding behind the scenes that reinforcements in attack are essential, especially with long-term planning in mind as the club prepares for life beyond Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona’s hierarchy have made it clear that a new striker is a top priority, and much of the focus has been centred around securing a marquee addition to lead the line.

While financial limitations continue to play a role in shaping decisions, the club remain active in exploring multiple options across Europe’s elite.

At the top of their wishlist sits Julian Alvarez, who has emerged as the ideal candidate to spearhead the attack moving forward.

The Argentine forward’s profile, work rate and finishing ability make him a natural fit for Barcelona’s system, but a deal is far from straightforward given his importance at Atlético Madrid.

With complications expected in negotiations, Barcelona have already begun putting contingency plans in place to avoid being left short-handed in the market.

One of those alternatives includes Joao Pedro of Chelsea, whose versatility and attacking output have caught the attention of the Catalan club.

However, another high-profile name has now firmly entered the conversation.

Barcelona are also admirers of Lautaro Martinez, viewing the Inter captain as a strong backup option should their pursuit of Alvarez fall through, as reported by Cadena SER.

The 28-year-old has once again proven his quality this season, delivering 20 goals and four assists in 36 appearances while leading Inter Milan in their push for major honours.

His leadership, consistency and big-game mentality have long been appreciated at Camp Nou, with the club having previously explored a move for him in the past.

Despite that admiration, any potential deal would come with significant hurdles.

Lautaro Martinez remains under contract until 2029 after signing a new deal in 2024, meaning Inter are under no pressure to sell their captain and would likely demand a substantial fee.

That reality mirrors the situation with Alvarez, reinforcing the financial challenge Barcelona face in landing a top-tier striker this summer.

Still, the Argentine international’s name is now firmly on the agenda as Barcelona continue to scan the market for the right profile to lead their next attacking era.
