Barcelona face a €80m Manchester City bid for their star defender as Pep Guardiola targets a high-profile reinforcement.

Multiple Premier League giants are circling, aware that prising a cornerstone of Hansi Flick’s project away from Catalonia would require not only a huge fee, but also perfect timing given Barça’s financial situation and sporting priorities.

What is emerging is a full-blown battle at the top of English football over a player many already view as a future captain at Camp Nou.

That defender is Pau Cubarsí, the 19-year-old Barcelona prodigy who has exploded onto the scene and established himself as a starter in one of Europe’s most demanding environments, as reported by Fichajes.

Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and other Premier League clubs have all positioned themselves as admirers, with Pep Guardiola’s side in particular exploring ways to test Barça’s resolve with a huge proposal.

Reports suggest an offer in the region of 70 to 80 million euros, potentially including players in part exchange, is being seriously discussed at the Etihad.

For Manchester City, Cubarsí is seen as a long-term solution at the heart of defence, combining elite composure on the ball, anticipation, and the bravery to play high up the pitch in a possession-heavy system.

With doubts over the futures or fitness of John Stones and Nathan Aké, and scrutiny on Rúben Dias, the Premier League champions are determined to refresh their back line with a profile perfectly aligned to Guardiola’s philosophy.

A mammoth package involving cash plus the likes of Rico Lewis and Omar Marmoush has even been floated as a way to make the deal more tempting for Barcelona.

Barcelona, however, consider Cubarsí practically untouchable. His contract runs until 2029 and includes a reported 500 million euro release clause, underlining how central he is to the club’s future.

As Premier League clubs circle and prepare monster bids, the coming months will reveal whether even an astronomical offer is enough to shake that conviction.
