Barcelona’s long-term planning has quietly shifted into a more deliberate phase, one that goes beyond headline signings and focuses on securing the next layer of talent before it becomes an issue.
With financial constraints still shaping every sporting decision, the club has placed renewed emphasis on continuity, development, and protecting internal assets.
Behind the scenes, contract renewals have become just as important as results on the pitch, especially with rival clubs circling Europe’s most productive academies.
The message coming out of the club is clear: if a player is considered part of the future, Barcelona want certainty, not hesitation.
That strategy is now being applied deeper within the youth structure, where another promising name is edging closer to a long-term commitment.
According to SPORT, Barcelona are finalising a new contract for Guillem Victor, with an agreement already in place and only formal paperwork remaining.
His current deal expires on 30 June, but the club have moved early, offering a renewal that will keep him tied down until 2028 and secure his progression into Barca Atletic over the next two seasons.
It is another example of how Barcelona are trying to eliminate uncertainty around young players before they reach critical crossroads in their development.
Guillem’s journey at the club stretches back to the 2018/19 season, when he joined the academy and began what has now become an eight-year pathway through La Masia.
The teenage right-back signed his first professional contract at 16, and while he is still part of the Juvenil A setup, the club already view him as someone capable of taking the next step.
This season alone, he has featured 18 times for Juvenil A, including seven appearances in the UEFA Youth League, while also gaining valuable minutes with Barca Atletic.
What has impressed coaches most is not just his reliability at right-back, but his adaptability across the pitch.
Guillem Victor has been used at centre-back, left-back, higher up on the wing and even in midfield, offering tactical flexibility that aligns with Barcelona’s positional style of play.
That versatility has not gone unnoticed at senior level either, with the youngster earning a first-team training call-up under Hansi Flick earlier this season.
There is also familiarity with the club’s environment in his personal story, as he is the brother of former Barcelona forward Pau Victor, which has helped him navigate the pressures that come with rising through the ranks.
Barcelona believe his football intelligence, technical quality and reading of the game set him apart, making this renewal a logical step rather than a gamble.
