Barcelona’s men’s team continue to rebuild under Hansi Flick, who has been steadily integrating new signings and youth prospects into the squad this season.
The Catalans have faced a challenging start in La Liga but have shown flashes of their trademark attacking football, with Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal leading the charge.
Off the pitch, the club has been active in securing long-term contracts for key stars while maintaining focus on developing talent from La Masia.
Fans are eagerly watching how the men’s side performs in both domestic and European competitions, hoping for stability and silverware after a transitional period.
Barcelona’s commitment to youth has been evident, with several teenagers stepping into senior roles and making a tangible impact.
Amid this backdrop, Barcelona and Spain teenager Vicky Lopez has been named the best young women’s player in the world, collecting the Kopa Trophy at the 2025 Ballon d’Or awards in Paris.
The 19-year-old was instrumental in Barcelona’s remarkable season, helping the team secure both the Liga F and Copa de la Reina titles, and also played a pivotal role in guiding Spain to the finals of Euro 2025.
Vicky Lopez beat stiff competition from the likes of Lionesses star Michelle Agyemang, Real Madrid’s Linda Caicedo, Chelsea midfielder Wieke Kaptein, and Club Olimpia and Paraguay forward Claudia Martinez to take home the prestigious award.
This triumph comes on the heels of another stellar year for club and country and follows her Golden Girl prize win in 2024, cementing her status as one of the brightest young talents in women’s football.
In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Lopez thanked her family, particularly her late mother: “Thank you to my family.
“I dedicate this to my mother, who watches over me from heaven and is protecting me so I can become a better person.
“I hope you’re proud of me; I miss you. I also want to thank Real Madrid, where I took my first steps.
“I also want to thank the national team, and obviously I can’t forget Barcelona, La Masia, its president… they’ve supported me and let me compete for the best team in the world at 16 years old.
“I want to send a little something to the pioneers of women’s football.
“Thanks to them, I’m able to collect this award today.”
Lopez’s victory means Barcelona secured a Kopa Trophy double this year, with Lamine Yamal claiming the men’s prize for the second consecutive season.
The 18-year-old is also a contender for the men’s Ballon d’Or.
Barcelona’s women’s team will be back in Liga F action on Saturday, taking on local rivals Espanyol, with Lopez expected to lead the charge once again.
