FC Barcelona’s sensational start to the season has established Hansi Flick’s side as the early team to beat in both domestic and European football.

Yet, even during a phase where the majority of the squad is thriving under the German manager’s tactical framework, squad competition remains fierce.

According to Diario Sport, the individual facing a precarious future in Catalonia is 22-year-old Spanish international Alejandro Balde.

Once regarded as the undisputed long-term successor to Jordi Alba on the left flank, Balde has experienced a drastic reversal of fortunes.

Having failed to log a single minute of competitive action this season, the young full-back has been effectively frozen out of Flick’s tactical setup and will likely be placed on the market when the winter window opens.

Balde’s loss of status stems directly from the rapid emergence of La Masia starlet Xavi Espart alongside the arrival of João Cancelo.

Espart’s defensive composure and creative distribution have earned Flick’s complete trust, while Cancelo offers irrepressible attacking firepower.

Together, the duo has locked down the full-back positions, leaving Balde without a defined role within the squad structure.

Although sporting director Deco publicly maintains that Barcelona still values Balde’s long-term potential, Flick’s selection scheme sends a stark message.

While a late reversal of fortunes remains theoretically possible if injuries strike during the congested autumn schedule, Barcelona’s sporting board appears ready to listen to transfer proposals if his situation remains static.

Having attracted serious interest from Manchester United during the summer transfer window, a move to the Premier League in January appears to be the most logical escape route for the Spanish defender to reignite his career.
