Wolverhampton Wanderers have made a bold move in the transfer market, submitting a £13m bid for a  Barcelona target.

The Premier League side, under manager Gary O’Neil, is looking to strengthen their defensive options following Nelson Semedo’s departure to Al-Nassr.

With ambitions to climb the Premier League table after a mid-table finish in 2024/25, Wolves are seizing the opportunity to outpace their European rivals for this promising talent.

The player in question is Marc Pubill, a 22-year-old defender from Almeria in Spain’s Segunda División.

Pubill, a former Spain U21 international, has impressed with his pace, defensive solidity, and attacking contributions, making him a versatile fit for Wolves’ system.

His absence from Almeria’s pre-season tour suggests a deal is close, with Wolves hopeful of finalizing the transfer by the end of the week.

The bid includes a sell-on clause, a strategic move to sweeten the deal for Almeria, who are keen to maximize the value of their academy product.

Barcelona had explored signing Pubill last summer after his proposed move to Atalanta collapsed, viewing him as a potential long-term replacement for Jules Koundé, who has attracted interest from Manchester City.

AC Milan also entered the race, drawn by Pubill’s performances in La Liga before Almeria’s relegation. However, Wolves have surged ahead, leveraging their financial stability and the promise of regular Premier League minutes to lure the young defender.

Pubill’s arrival could bolster Wolves’ backline alongside new signing John Arias, as they prepare for their Premier League opener against Chelsea.

As negotiations progress, Wolves’ proactive approach signals their intent to compete with Europe’s best, potentially securing a future star in Pubill.
