An out-of-favor Barcelona player is reportedly seeking a permanent departure from the club after falling down the pecking order.

A Barcelona defender is working hard to make his loan a permanent transfer so he can have a clear future before the FIFA Club World Cup starts in mid-June.

As reported by Diario Sport, the defender has returned to Barcelona to have a meeting with executives from the club to get a permanent transfer from his loan club.

With his loan coming to a close, the defender wants to work as fast as possible to get some closure on his status to be able to play in the later part of the tournament, potentially mid-July if the club progresses.

The player is Clement Lenglet, who was on loan to Atletico Madrid for the 2024/25 season, where he did quite well under manager Diego Simeone.

Following the completion of 34 matches and over 2,500 minutes, Lenglet accumulated 3 goals and 2 assists, regaining his confidence in his play.

He wants to be in Madrid, where he is comfortable, scene the World Cup would be played, but most importantly, he likes Simeone’s training.

Since Atletico’s Club World Cup plans commence June 15 and Lenglet’s loan expires June 30, Lenglet is now pushing to transfer from Barcelona to Atletico permanently so he can be eligible, should he need, to play in important matches.

Barcelona, on the other hand, wants to offload Lenglet permanently to alleviate their Financial Fair Play situation.

The clubs are in dialogue, and both want to conclude the transfer quickly.

Lenglet’s drive to secure his future depicts his commitment to Atletico and the upcoming tournament.

For Barcelona, completing this transfer would bring financial relief and clarity when guerrilla planning their squad.

As both clubs continue discussions, the focus is on whether Lenglet can achieve his goal of signing with Madrid ahead of the Club World Cup.
