A promising young Barcelona forward finds himself at a career crossroads after not securing his place at one of the premier clubs in Europe.

The 22-year-old academy graduate, who was once touted as the next star, has had his momentum stalled with troublesome injury issues and little playing time this season.

With his development frozen, a summer transfer seems more and more likely to facilitate the fresh start he desperately needs.

Portugal has emerged as a potential destination, with two of the biggest clubs in the country reportedly interested in providing the gifted attacker with a chance to resurrect his career.

Both clubs see value in gambling on a player who has experienced highly unfortunate circumstances in the past few years.

One club sees him as historically part of their successful practice of rejuvenating promising young talents, while the other club sees him as the ideal replacement for their departing soon-to-be-ex star striker.

The subject of this post is Barcelona’s very own Ansu Fati, and the developments surrounding him have reached a serious level of interest from both FC Porto and Sporting CP, according to Fichajes.

Porto feels they can channel what they achieved with Samu Omorodion by creating a situation where Fati can revive the confidence in his game, while Sporting would view Fati as a potential option if and when Viktor Gyokeres leaves as expected.

Barcelona is open to a permanent deal given Fati’s lofty wages and the fact that they would be loaning a player with a contract until 2027; they are cognizant of the fact that the Spaniard needs minutes on the field to find his form and rhythm again.

In fact, for Fati, the Portuguese league might be the perfect place to regain his confidence and love for the game.

There is plenty of time left in the summer transfer window, but with summer upon us, it feels like this could be a fork in the road for the former golden boy of La Masia.
