FC Barcelona’s summer rebuild continues to gather pace under the leadership of Hansi Flick, with the club making strong strides in the transfer market.

Having already finalised the arrival of Joan Garcia and edging closer to wrapping up a deal for long-term target Nico Williams, the Catalan giants appear committed to strengthening their squad depth before pre-season begins.

Deco has been central to these negotiations, with Barca’s sporting department balancing ambitious incomings against financial fair play requirements.

While the focus remains on bolstering the forward line, an intriguing midfield twist has emerged from the Premier League that could yet influence the club’s plans.

According to ESPN, Thomas Partey is set to leave Arsenal as a free agent this summer after contract renewal talks collapsed.

The Ghanaian midfielder, who joined the Gunners from Atletico Madrid, has long been admired by Barca and was previously tracked during earlier windows.

With his deal at the Emirates set to expire on June 30, the 31-year-old is now expected to move on, with no progress made between Arsenal and his representatives.

Barcelona’s interest in Thomas Partey had cooled in recent months, largely due to the emergence of young midfield talents like Marc Casado and Marc Bernal, who are both expected to play larger roles next season.

Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Gavi already occupy key roles in midfield, while Eric Garcia has also slotted in as a defensive pivot when needed.

At present, a new midfielder is not viewed as a priority for Flick and Deco, especially with all efforts focused on landing Nico Williams and then pivoting toward securing a right-back.

However, Partey’s availability on a free could yet reignite discussions, especially given his La Liga experience and ability to add depth in multiple roles.

While no move is imminent, Barcelona are keeping tabs on the situation, and should circumstances shift, they may reconsider their stance.

With the window still young and surprises always on the cards, the Ghanaian’s potential return to Spain cannot be completely ruled out.
