After many disappointing years, it looks like Frenkie de Jong’s time at Barcelona is set to come to an end.
Reports claiming that Hansi Flick has no use for the Dutch midfielder have been coming out and the lack of selection in his squads backs up this news.
Despite being out of favour, Barcelona still have to pay his very expensive wages and despite acceptance that his contract will not be renewed after 2026, the Catalonian side are hoping they can sell him to regain some of the cash they spent on him.
However, due to the previously mentioned high wages, finding potential suitors has been an almost impossible task, especially when De Jong and his representatives refuse to take a wage decrease.
One of the countries that would be able to afford his salary is Saudi Arabia, unfortunately, the midfielder doesn’t seem keen on the move.
Nonetheless, it seems like Saudi Pro League clubs are still interested in the 27-year-old and will attempt to pry him away next summer.
In a recent article by Relevo, it is claimed that Ramon Planes, former technical secretary of Barça and current technical director of Al-Ittihad, met with Deco whilst he is in Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup.
Even though they did not speak about transfers, they claim that De Jong is definitely on the agenda for the Saudi club next summer transfer window.
Finally, the article states that a January deal is unlikely as the SPL are happy to wait as they know the Dutch midfielder will be cheaper in the summer.
Despite being out of favour, it is expected that Barça will still want a decent fee for De Jong and currently, he is valued at €45million, via Transfermrkt.
