Real Betis have emerged as frontrunners to sign an out-of-favour Barcelona star, aiming to bolster their squad.
As FC Barcelona continues to try to downsize as well as try to comply with La Liga’s financial parameters, several players have been placed on the transfer market for that reason ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Realizing that they have Nico Williams, who is set to join the team very shortly, and with more new players arriving, the club wants to get rid of unwanted players from Hansi Flick’s proposed plans, reduce the salary, and pay for additional new players.
Among the latest news was one player who attracted considerable interest from various La Liga clubs just days ago, and while Sevilla is now in the clear lead to sign him, it signals a certain shift in his career.
The player involved is Pau Victor, a 23-year-old forward who has found it difficult since joining Barcelona, with their potent front line.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Betis have jumped into the lead for Victor, and their offer is structured in a way that would give Betis 50% of the rights for a deal similar to Pablo Torre’s supposed move to Mallorca – a €5 million sale with a certain buy-back deal for Barcelona.
Victor’s potential market this summer increased from the limited game time he had – 29 appearances for 378 minutes, 2 goals, and 1 assist in the 2024-25 season – interest from Celta Vigo, Valencia, Osasuna, Getafe, Mallorca, Sevilla, and Real Betis.
Due to the good relationship between Betis and Barcelona in the Vitor Roque loan termination discussions, Betis is in a better position than Sevilla.
Sevilla prefers a loan with an option to buy, while Barcelona doesn’t want to include any further extension of the deal, so this largely helps Betis in the negotiation process.
Victor views a move to Betis as an opportunity to get some regular minutes, which is fundamentally important in a developmental sense.
Coupled with the opportunity for Barcelona to maintain control over Victor through the move, it also fits with their commercial approach.
\Betis could shape their attack if successful in the negotiations, and Victor could enjoy a new experience in La Liga under Manuel Pellegrini.
