Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven are reportedly planning a surprising move for a talented Barcelona La Masia starlet.
The Dutch Giants are surely going to be looking to add to their squad, having recently been crowned winners of the Dutch League, and are once again looking at this young defender, given the indecisive future had at the Catalan club.
Practically no game time was given to him under the existing coach, Hansi Flick, so a move to PSV would give him the chance of a fresh start in an attacking pressing environment where he could develop into something special.
The surprising target is 18-year-old right back Hector Fort, and PSV has been keeping one eye on this.
Fort has a contract with Barcelona that runs until 2026, although he has struggled for any game time this season, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
Flick has continued to select his ‘stars’, such as Jules Kounde, and opted to play Eric Garcia as a patched-up right-back when Kounde could not continue.
The lack of game minutes has led to a lot of speculation about his next moves, including an important meeting set to be had between Flick and the sporting director, Deco, to discuss the emergency function Fort had in the squad at the end of the La Liga season.
PSV’s interest is driven primarily by their need for reinforcements at right-back, where they don’t feel they have sufficient backup, despite their title-winning season.
While La Masia graduates remain important for the club, the prospect of getting some player wages off their books to alleviate financial fair play restrictions, plus a little clarity in a position with plenty of options, could make them more flexible.
A loan move could allow Fort to experience football regularly as he looks to fulfill his long-term potential, and how that may shape his career path back to Catalonia, or beyond.
