Barcelona’s youth system has long been celebrated for producing some of the world’s finest footballers, but the Catalan giants now find themselves facing growing uncertainty over one of their brightest young stars.

La Masia continues to churn out elite talent under the watchful eye of Hansi Flick, who has not hesitated to involve several academy players in first-team sessions this season.

With injuries and squad rotation influencing selection, the Barcelona manager has increasingly turned to the next generation for support.

Recent months have seen many youngsters step up, a sign of the club’s faith in its youth structure amid financial caution.

However, one emerging prospect may not be staying long enough to fulfil his potential at Camp Nou.

Juan Hernandez, the 18-year-old midfield sensation from La Masia, has been training with Barcelona’s first team on a semi-regular basis in recent weeks.

He even featured in a couple of matchday squads this month, a clear indicator of Flick’s belief in his talent.

Yet, Hernandez’s future in Catalonia is now uncertain, as his current contract runs out at the end of the season.

According to Mundo Deportivo, French champions Paris Saint-Germain are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to pounce should renewal talks collapse.

The Ligue 1 giants, managed by former Barca boss Luis Enrique, are particularly alert to talent emerging from La Masia and see Juan Hernandez as a perfect addition to their growing collection of young European stars.

Hernandez, who has been part of Barcelona’s academy setup since 2020, has impressed with Barca Atletic this season under Juliano Belletti.

A technically gifted and versatile midfielder, he can operate both centrally and on the wings.

In seven starts this campaign, he has registered one goal and one assist, numbers that underline his influence despite limited experience.

While Hernandez’s release clause currently stands at €6 million, he could depart for free next summer if renewal talks remain unresolved.

Discussions between Barcelona and the player’s representatives have taken place, but no agreement has been reached, leaving PSG and other top European clubs on high alert.

The coming months could prove decisive for the teenager’s future, and for Barcelona’s ability to retain yet another jewel from La Masia.
