A key Barcelona star has firmly rejected interest from Premier League clubs, choosing to stay loyal to the Catalan giants.

The player, who played a key part in Hansi Flick’s squad last season at FC Barcelona, attracted interest from English clubs for his performances.

Barcelona said they would entertain offers of approximately €15 million to help with their financial situation, and with his potential departure on the horizon, the player has never wavered from his future with the club, and the future with the club does involve being part of the long-term plans of their squad.

The player in question is Gerard Martin, 23 years old, and a local Catalan defender, who drained to dislocated his fifth metacarpal in his right hand in Spain’s 2024 Under-21 European Championship opener.

Martin had surgery on June 17, 2025, according to Diario Sport, and he is taking time to recover rather than entertain transfer speculation.

Wolves and Bournemouth have made him their off-season target, and neither of the clubs has made formal bids for his services.

The player has responded that he is ‘happy’ at the club, and he and his family have dismissed the idea of any exit plan.

Martin is committed to the club that extended his contract until 2028, and with 42 total appearances (1 goal & 6 assists) last season, it reflected faith in Gerard Martin by the club.

It will complicate Martin getting regular minutes in this squad. But with Flick’s faith in his versatility and professionalism, the decision maker has kept him in and on the team sheet.

Selling Martin would mean Barcelona looking for a replacement, and that currently is not part of the plans.

FC Barcelona has to maneuver through Financial Fair Play, and having a loyal Martin brings stability.
