In the next few days, FC Barcelona will begin negotiations with Manchester United for Marcus Rashford, providing more diversity in attack ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Catalonia’s outfit is pursuing Marcus Rashford after failing to secure Athletic Club’s Nico Williams, who signed a long-term contract extension (until 2035).
It is now looking to an out-of-favor Premier League star in Rashford because of manager Hansi Flick’s objective to add pace and creativity to the left part of the squad, more comfortable with the club’s far better financial situation under La Liga’s 1:1 regulation.
Rashford, a 27-year-old Manchester United forward, was said to be keen to move to Barcelona, whom he viewed as a dream transfer, according to Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato.
He is currently sidelined at Old Trafford and has been permitted to stay away from the early part of the club’s pre-season training (spending most of the summer resolving his future at the club).
His versatility and pace suit his explosive style, which could add an ideal combination alongside young prospects like Lamine Yamal.
In addition, it is understood that any interest from Barcelona was rekindled after a January proposal failed with sporting director Deco, who wished to replace Marcus Rashford.
Deco requested the latest updates on Rashford’s situation and sees Rashford as a vital piece of Flick’s tactical layout.
The transfer is not without complications as Manchester United are likely going to demand a fee of €45 million and Barcelona needs to manage their wage bill and may need to make some sales like Ronald Araujo to make the move happen, etc – so there are several elements that could be decisive.
At a time when talks are moving towards a conclusion, Rashford’s move to the Camp Nou could prove to be significant as it could offer a new dynamic to a Barcelona attack that is looking for dynamics in La Liga and the Champions League.
The next few days will be decisive in regards to whether this notable move happens or not.
