Marcus Rashford, currently on loan at Aston Villa, says he wants to make a dream move to Barcelona this summer, giving the Catalan club an appealing option.
According to Diario Sport, the player is even prepared to go as far as forcing an exit from his parent club, Manchester United, and taking a massive pay cut to join Hansi Flick’s ambitious project.
The player is working with celebrity agent Pini Zahavi, who worked with Robert Lewandowski and Flick to arrive in previous seasons against the wishes of their respective teams.
Marcus Rashford, the English international, with an even bigger desire to join Barcelona.
Rashford’s camp has even suggested flexible options, including a season-long loan with a buy option, to help relieve Barcelona’s financial difficulties.
However, Manchester United would rather sell him outright as they want “around £40 million”. Aston Villa would be able to facilitate that deal.
It is thought Rashford, one of the Premier League’s highest earners, sees moving to Brazil instead of furloughing for a season as a career-defining opportunity to rediscover the form that has gone missing in the past few seasons.
Rashford has even declined massive offers from Saudi Arabia and other Premier League clubs to ensure he joins Barcelona.
Barcelona, seeking to add a high-quality winger, is interested in Rashford’s quality and ability to fit within Flick’s system, but remains very hesitant.
The club is evaluating multiple targets.
They will be flexible financially and are waiting for the right time to make a decision.
Rashford’s willingness to take a financial hit to play for Barcelona and his forward-thinking nature have put Barcelona in the driver’s seat.
However, with interest in him from other teams and his current loan at Villa, time is of the essence.
With the summer window approaching, it remains to be seen if Barcelona will act on this opportunity to acquire an attractive player with household-name talent who is keen to commit to their project, or will Rashford’s degree of patience be stretched by other suitors?
