Pep Guardiola, Manchester City manager, is reportedly urging his club to secure the signature of a highly talented star from FC Barcelona.
Kevin De Bruyne’s move to Italy to fill the gap in City’s midfield has caused Guardiola to crave a dynamic player with energy, technique, and room for growth to join City’s transfer plans to complement his possession-based style of play.
The transfer rumors have gotten Manchester City fans excited as the Premier League Champions plan for another successful season in England and Europe.
The player in question is Fermín López, the 22-year-old star from FC Barcelona, who has emerged as an exciting player this season, as reported by Fichajes.
López, who came through Barcelona’s La Masia academy, had an impressive season last year with a total of eight goals and ten assists over 46 games, and having only started 19 of those.
Guardiola sees López fitting easily into City’s plans going forward, and could potentially bring a new level to their midfield alongside midfield star Rodri.
However, getting López’s signature is not going to be easy.
Barcelona, who are in a tough financial situation, might be open to offers for the midfielder so they can claim funds to go after Athletic Club’s Nico Williams.
While head coach Hansi Flick likes Lopez and would prefer he stays, the board might be tempted into a very hefty offer, with estimates of a valuation of around €50 million.
Additionally, interest is likely to come from Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Atlético Madrid as well, adding a layer of complexity.
López is under contract until 2029, giving Barcelona some leverage; however, dire straits financially might force some tough decisions.
For Manchester City, if they sign the Spaniard, it could be handiwork, but they need to encounter the competition and act quickly to change Barcelona’s mind about transferring their prized asset. appenatisfactory
