RCD Mallorca is intensifying its pursuit of promising talent from FC Barcelona, aiming to bolster its squad.
RCD Mallorca’s interest in FC Barcelona’s youth academy continues to grow as they set their sights on another promising talent from the Catalan club’s talent pool.
Fresh off securing a deal for Pablo Torre, Los Piratas are now looking to bolster their squad with a young player who has already made waves in both domestic and international competitions, signaling their ambition to build a competitive team under new manager Jagoba Arrasate.
The player in question is 18-year-old winger Jan Virgili, who joined Barcelona’s U-19 squad from Gimnàstic de Tarragona last summer, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
Virgili played a pivotal role in Juliano Belletti’s Juvenil A side, contributing to a historic treble that included the league, Copa del Rey Juvenil, and UEFA Youth League titles.
Across 33 youth-level matches, he scored seven goals and provided three assists.
His performances earned him a late-season promotion to Barça Atlètic, where he made 17 appearances, scored four goals, and became the first-choice right winger under Sergi Milà.
Virgili’s rapid rise caught the attention of Barcelona’s first-team coach, Hansi Flick, who included him in pre-season training alongside other young talents.
Despite not making the final pre-season squad and returning to Barça Atlètic, Virgili’s stock remains high.
His standout displays for Spain at the Under-19 European Championship have attracted interest from multiple clubs, including Mallorca and four teams from La Liga.
Mallorca, who signed Pablo Torre for €5 million plus a future sell-on percentage, are eager to strike another deal with Barcelona for the versatile winger.
The interest from Mallorca highlights their strategy of tapping into Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy to strengthen their squad.
However, Virgili faces a critical decision: stay at Barcelona to fight for a first-team spot under Flick or seek immediate playing time elsewhere.
As the transfer window progresses, Virgili’s next move will be closely watched, with his potential transfer signaling another chapter in Mallorca’s pursuit of Barcelona’s brightest prospects.
