Barcelona and Mallorca have reached a full agreement for the transfer of a promising star, marking a significant move in the ongoing summer transfer window.
This transfer marks the second move from Barcelona to Mallorca this summer, following a similar path taken by another young prospect.
The agreement, driven by Mallorca’s strategic recruitment under coach Jagoba Arrasate, strengthens their squad while allowing Barcelona to retain influence over the player’s future, aligning with their financial and squad management goals.
The player in question is 19-year-old winger Jan Virgili, who has signed a five-year contract with Mallorca, as reported by Diario Sport.
Virgili, a standout for Barcelona’s Juvenil A side that clinched a treble last season, caught Arrasate’s eye for his dynamism and versatility in wide positions.
The Basque coach’s admiration, pivotal in securing Pablo Torre earlier, proved decisive again.
Negotiations culminated in a €3.5 million deal for 50% of Virgili’s rights, with Barcelona retaining the other half to benefit from any future transfer.
This compromise followed intense talks, with Mallorca initially offering €2 million and Barcelona holding out for €4 million.
Mallorca executives Pablo Ortells and Aritz Aduriz traveled to Barcelona to finalize the transfer and explore additional deals involving players like Hector Fort and Dani Rodriguez.
Virgili, who recently shone in the U-20 Intercontinental Cup against Flamengo, sought a first-team role but faced limited opportunities at Barcelona due to a crowded attacking lineup.
His brief disagreement with the club over a reserve team role led to this move, offering him a chance to shine in La Liga.
Virgili is set to join Mallorca’s squad ahead of their clash against Real Madrid on August 30, 2025.
This transfer not only bolsters Mallorca’s attacking options but also underscores Barcelona’s strategy to nurture talent while addressing Financial Fair Play constraints, ensuring Virgili’s potential continues to develop on a prominent stage.
