Since the turn of the year, one of the most impressive revivals has been the return of Frenkie de Jong.
The Dutch midfielder looked set to be iced out of the first team and not up to scratch for Hansi Flick.
However, due to injuries, the German coach had to rely on De Jong, a decision that has been massively beneficial for all parties.
Since impressing, the Netherlands international has been starting a lot more, most recently partnering Pedri in the Blaugrana’s 4-1 win over Sevilla.
Despite turning around his Barcelona career, De Jong’s deal still runs out at the end of the 2026 season and this summer he has a big decision to make.
Joan Laporta has made it very clear that anyone entering the last year of their deal will not be in the first team until they sign a new contract, this includes Frenkie.
Even though there has been solid interest from Saudi Arabia, the former Ajax player has shown no sings of wanting to leave Barcelona.
However, with Laporta’s decision it could force the midfielder to consider his future away from Spain and according to Fichajes, via Managing Barca, there is a big English side interested in his signature.
The report states that Liverpool are preparing a €35million offer for the 27-year-old, they also report that Saudi sides are still following him.
The Reds currently have a very strong Dutch contingent which includes Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch and their manager Arne Slot.
So if De Jong does decide to leave Spain then Liverpool seems like the most obvious place where he would fit in seamlessly.
