Liverpool launches a surprise bid to hijack Barcelona’s prime target, putting the Blaugrana’s carefully laid plans in real jeopardy.

The Premier League side has ramped up its interest in recent weeks, capitalising on Barcelona’s ongoing financial constraints and slower decision‑making to position itself as the front-runner in the race.

For Barça, who had lined up this defender as a key reinforcement for their backline, the development represents a sudden threat to one of their most coveted plans.

The player in question is Alessandro Bastoni, the 26‑year‑old Inter Milan centre‑back whose performances in Serie A and the Champions League have made him one of Europe’s most sought‑after defenders, as reported by Fichajes.

Barcelona have long admired Bastoni’s combination of aerial dominance, composure on the ball, and ability to play out from the back, viewing him as an ideal fit for their possession‑oriented system under Hansi Flick.

The Catalan club was prepared to structure a move that would see them pay a significant fee, likely in the region of €40–45 million, and tie him down to a long‑term contract.

However, Liverpool has now stepped in with a more aggressive stance, both commercially and in terms of sporting appeal.

The Reds are keen to strengthen their central defence ahead of a busy season and see Bastoni as a long‑term solution capable of commanding the back line for years.

With stronger financial firepower and the prospect of regular Champions League football, Liverpool is in a good position to push their offer closer to Inter’s demands, making it harder for Barcelona to compete on the same level.

If Liverpool manages to complete the deal, it will be a major coup in the transfer market and a clear setback for Barcelona’s defensive renovation project.

Losing Bastoni would not only mean missing out on a proven, high‑level centre‑back, but also risk forcing Barça to either settle for a less experienced option or pay more for an alternative in a tight market.
